Vermaelen sends farewell message to Arsenal after joining Barcelona

Ex-Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has sent a goodbye message to Arsenal after joining Spanish Giants Barcelona on a permanent deal worth about £15m.

Vermaelen joined Arsenal from Ajax in 2009 and has made 150 appearances for the London club so far, scoring 15 times. The Belgium international started his career at Arsenal on a very good note only for him to go on a long term injury scare which saw him miss a lot of games.

He couldn't make his way into the Arsenal starting XI after returning from injury and this made him consider a move to another club where he can get adequate play time.

Vermaelen joined Barcelona last week and he was humble enough to send a farewell message to Arsenal and its supporters. In his letter, he appreciated the support of the club and fans and also revealed how happy he is to have played for Arsenal.

"After 5 years at Arsenal and the last 2 years a proud captain too, it's time for me to move on. The club, the team, the fans, the manager, the staff and other employees, you all made me feel at home at both the training ground and the Emirates Stadium.

"It was a wonderful time and I feel blessed I've had the opportunity to be a part of such a great club. There have been so many wonderful games and experiences, with lifting the FA Cup as an absolute highlight. I would like to thank you all for your support, it was a huge honour to be a Gunner."

Its obvious that Vermaelen is top class for showing gratitude. In the past, so many players that left Arsenal have said negative things about the club but Vermaelen's case is different.
We wish you the best of luck. You will be greatly missed.
